Remote Collar Dog Training
by The K9 Guy, 08-30-09I had the pleasure to attend another Graduate Seminar at National K9 recently. These seminars are conducted annually to provide continuing education for students that obtained certification through their school. This year's primary focus was dog aggression, but there were other topics presented and countless discussions taking place with many professional trainer's - old and new.
For me, one of this year's highlights was a presentation by Faye Kelley on the use of remote collars (Ecollars) for dog training. While there are several methodologies for using these tools to teach dogs, Faye's presentation and subsequent discussions really renewed my interest in some of the newer methods.
While I've used electronic collars at times for certain clients and their dogs, I plan to begin offering some newer methods as a training option for dogs and their owners. I feel these newer techniques can provide significant advantages, as they permit collars to be used for communication and teaching rather than simply aversion or correction. The timing advantages provided by these tools can hasten learning and understanding for the dog, while helping owners communicate in a more fluid and natural way.
While I'll continue to offer many options to clients wishing to train their dog(s), in many cases I can see significant advantages to remote training. If you'd like further details, just call!
