With a Little Love...

by the K9 Guy, 06-20-14

Every once in a while I run across a story that I feel compelled to share. The video below is rather long and took place a few years ago, but it's worth watching. An abandoned / lost dog near death was rescued from a canyon by a hiker/climber. The rescuer then took the dog in as part if his family. This video has some heart wrenching shots of a very malnourished dog, but there is a very happy ending.

What I found most compelling was how this dog (with such a bleak beginning) blossomed into a great companion. The video is a testament to a dog's resilience and ability to remain "happy and friendly" despite problematic beginnings. I believe a dog's personality is mostly hard wired, and that dogs are usually pleasant and eager to please human companions. While less pleasant personalities in dogs are often rationalized (dog was abused, dog was abandoned, etc) by humans, examples such as these should provide reason to reconsider such thoughts.
