Evaluation
As part of my first visit, I always perform a thorough evaluation. The evaluation includes an interview with your family, assessment of your dog, and discussion of your desired goals. Evaluations generally lengthen the first visit, but it's time well spent. It allows me the opportunity to develop a sense of your dog's unique personality, and to offer tailored options in working toward the goals you have for your pet.
Good Manners
Dogs who are basically "good" but still create some minor issue(s) in the home can often benefit from some simple "manners". A well mannered dog does not jump on people, bark inappropriately, pull on its leash when walking, beg at the table, or be a bother to the family. Manners teach a dog certain behaviors are simply not allowed.
In these cases I help you develop the basic communication and leadership skills necessary to teach your dog desired house rules. Even if you never teach your dog formal commands, manners can help you and your dog live a much happier life together. Since your dog will be with your family for many years, this is a very small investment toward a long, happy relationship.
Dog Behavior Problems
Many times owners experience specific dog behavior that causes a serious disruption in the household. If you find yourself becoming troubled or frustrated by a behavioral issue, early intervention is always best. Correcting the problem behavior not only helps you feel better about your pet, it will help your pet feel better as well. Examples of problem dog behavior include:

Dog Training
Training is the best way to establish a healthy relationship with your pet. Dog training can start as early as 4 months of age in puppies, or any time in a healthy dog's life. The sooner you start, the more years you'll have to enjoy a rewarding life together based on mutual respect.
The time needed to complete each obedience level depends on your dog's personality type, and your own ability to work regularly with your dog(s). Most owners have a good idea of how quickly training will progress after 1 or 2 sessions, each typically lasting about 90 minutes. The more you practice training with your dog between my visits, the faster he/she will learn.
As a dog learns commands, it's a matter of continued building on an initial foundation. This means a dog cannot learn advanced commands until dog and owner are proficient with prerequisite commands.
- Basic Training
On-leash commands including; leash manners, heel (with automatic sit), sit, down, and come.
- Intermediate Training
Building on basic training above, this level adds the following on-leash commands; stay, sit and down in motion, offset commands, finish (optional). - Advanced Training
Building on intermediate training above, this level teaches all previous commands off-leash plus adds a placemat command (dog stays on mat indefinitely until released - optional).
