New Year Reflections

I believe this is a common time of year for introspective reflections. In regards to training and behavior with dogs, I would like to share one of my favorite quotes from Henry Beston . . .

“We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.”

The creatures we know as dogs are, in my mind, a wonderful blessing for mankind - but one we can never fully understand. While I am grateful for every opportunity given me to further my knowledge of dogs and their relationships with people, I understand it is a trek that will never be complete. It is a trek, however, that is immensely enjoyable.
