Happy Thanksgiving
Hope everyone has a restful and happy Thanksgiving. As a reminder, table scraps this holiday can cause illness in dogs. The high fat content in turkey skin is one culprit causing problems, bones and large volumes of food can also contribute to illness.
Petplan, a company that insures nearly 100,000 dogs and cats across the country, has found that claims for unexpected food-related illnesses soar over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend. Pancreatitis claims increase by 78 percent, and gastroenteritis claims rise by 27 percent.
These illnesses can be costly, with the average cost for veterinary care for pancreatitis at $940, and the price for gastroenteritis at nearly $400.
