Dogs and Disabilities
I ran across this story while reviewing several news feeds this morning. This dog wound up at a shelter in NC about 1 month ago, found as a stray and paralyzed from the waist down. He had many sores from dragging himself about. The shelter found another shelter in FL that could donate a wheelchair, and a manufacturer that was able to help with parts and sizing.
While the story is heart-warming, it also shows the incredible adaptability of dogs. If you watch the video or read the story linked below, you can see this dog is very happy and in no way depressed or sorry about his lot in life.
The shelter workers are seeking someone to adopt this special needs dog they named "Scooter" - the dog does have several related health issues due to being paralyzed. They also mention that the dog's disability and personality would make him a great therapy dog for hospital visits - that would be a great job for this little guy.
