Now Accepting Credit Cards Through Square

On August 1st, 2011, I will begin accepting credit cards as a convenience to customers. Because all of my services are provided in the field, I have been researching options to accept payments "on the road" over the past year. While technology is making great strides, previous options entailed substantial fees which would have impacted session pricing.

Over the past few months, Square has streamlined its pricing while offering reliable service, simplicity, and necessary security for merchants and clients. Their technology allows processing of all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover) through an equipped cell phone.

While this service is robust, field payments using cell phone apps are still developing and currently have some limitations. If you live in an area with poor cellular coverage, I may not be able to process a payment. Also, the application managing payments has limited receipt options, so clients purchasing a taxable item will still receive a written receipt to comply with state laws. Finally, any charges requiring a refund must be processed from my office.

While I'm excited to provide this additional payment option, cash and check are always welcome as they do not incur processing fees. I will update this post with relevant information as I evaluate this and other payment options moving forward.
