Canine Influenza - H3N8 Update
Last year I ran a post about a new flu vaccine for dogs. Since that time, the vaccine has become more widely available, and H3N8 has spread to more areas of the country. The video below has further details. In short, vaccinations require 2 sets of injections about 2-3 weeks apart with an annual booster.
Flu season is approaching, and dogs have no natural immunity to H3N8. To date, Ohio has had several infections. While many local vets are not presently recommending the vaccine, that could change if infections become more prevalent this season. Now may be a good time to have a discussion about this inexpensive vaccine with your vet. More details here.
