Ohio House Approves Ammendment to Change Pit Bull Legislation
Not making much of a stir in the headlines, but last week the House overwhelmingly approved and amendment to remove breed specific language from Ohio law. Currently, Ohio has some of the most stern BSL (breed specific legislation) of any State. While many pit bull owners may not be aware, current Ohio law automatically deems Pit Bulls as "viscious", subjecting owners to restrictions and liabilities not present for other breeds. This legislation now needs approval of the Senate.
06-11-10 UPDATE: Press on this matter is indicating that the OH Senate may not act on this issue until very late this year due to the general political turmoil sweeping this country. Additionally, the Ohio Senate does not have a good track record of receiving such legislation well. If this matter is not passed and to the Governor before the end of the year, the bill will die.
