Microchip Helps Pooch Home
This story discusses the benefits of microchipping your dog. The story notes that dogs without a microchip have about a 5+% chance of being returned to owners, while with a chip the odds rise to approximately 85%. Several local clinics provide microchips annually at strongly discounted rates. Watch the K9 Community pages for information as I receive it.
Also, be certain to ask how to register your dog's chip. Many clinics and vets leave this responsibility to the owner. If you don't do the follow-up registration (which will be an added fee), your pet's chip number won't be tied directly to your pet, reducing the likelihood of a successful return. And while tags are the obvious 1st line of defense in getting a lost dog home, they won't help if your dog looses its collar or a criminal intentionally removes them.
