Franklin County Animal Shelter Update
I've had a few posts regarding the bad press the Franklin County Animal Shelter (FCAS) had been receiving from the Columbus Dispatch. As an update, the County Commissioners voted unanimously to fire Director Lisa A. Wahoff and Assistant Director Craig L. Turk last week. They're pledging to move forward on improving things at the shelter, as well as to begin construction of a new $18 million dollar shelter this year at the old Northland Mall site.
According the Dispatch, many of the issues that led to these terminations started years ago. No explanation was given for why they weren't reporting on these problems when they started. Their first story regarding FCAS was one criticizing the Commissioners building of a new shelter. 2 months later they were attacking management at the shelter. Now they're reporting on the terminations and making a point to mention the shelter construction is still planned for 2009. Very odd to me.
Here's hoping things will work out for the best for all parties - especially the animals that hang in the balance.
