Prisons Using Dogs to Sniff Out Cell Phones
This story discusses a new program being tried in MD prisons. With cell phones getting smaller, it's becoming easier for inmates to smuggle in and hide them. A "connected" inmate can essentially continue pursuing various criminal enterprises from within the prisons, so this is a serious and growing problem. It's likely other technological solutions are being developed, but it's always interesting to see a more "old school" approach.
Is it working? The story indicates that when the search dogs enter a cell block it's common to hear the sound of flushing toilets as inmates try and get rid of their contraband.
