Shelter Worker Attacked by Dog
This story out of NM involves a shelter worker who was attacked by a dog in the shelter. The worker required hospitalization and the dog is scheduled to be euthanized.
It's interesting to note a shelter spokesperson stating the dog showed no signs of any aggression prior to this attack, although he also said the 3 year old dog was surrendered to their shelter because of fighting with other dogs in a home.
I've discussed warning signs of aggression in the past, and any time a dog fights with or kills other animals it's a "red flag". In a shelter setting, information of this kind is critical on an intake from someone surrendering a dog. It also points out the need to have qualified persons doing temperament testing to surface such issues before any dog is placed in a home.
