Dog Show - Salt Lake City
I found this video interesting for several reasons. First, dog shows are a great place to go and see dogs of various breeds. Whether you just like dogs, or are thinking about a dog in your future, these shows provide a unique opportunity. This particular show actually has a portion of their show designated to "meet the breed". What a great idea and wonderful way for folks to learn about breeds.
Secondly, toward the end of this video the news person takes a prior champion for a brief walk. I understand the dog is in a high distraction area (other dogs, people, cameras, etc), but watch the dog a bit. It's really pulling on its lead and not listening to the news person very much. This is a good example of different types of training. Someone can train a dog to be a champion in agility, and that doesn't necessarily mean the dog's been trained well for real world needs like walking nicely on a leash, sitting quietly, etc. This may have been an off day for this particular dog, but it may also be the dog's never been taught such manners.
