Breed Specific Legislation - BSL
I've discussed in the past my opinion that BSL is a very misguided way to address behavior issues in dogs or to make owners responsible. I'm posting the video below because it's a shining example of the problem with BSL. BSL assumes that certain breeds are problematic or dangerous.
As you view the clip of this pit bull mix it's clear that this dog is neither. Yet whoever adopts this dog could possibly face increased insurance premiums, local legislation that would impose restrictions on where or how the pet can be walked, where the dog can be kept, undue fear from neighbors, etc.
Every dog is unique! Responsible and knowledgeable dog owners should take advantage of every opportunity to educate their elected officials, insurance carriers, and friends of this simple fact.
One final note - the agency representative discusses how well behaved this dog is because it's been in a foster home. This is often very true...
