Marine Gives Iraqi Dog New Lease on Life
San Diego - Marine Maj. Brian Dennis and friends have raised over $3,500.00 to send a Shepherd/Border Collie Mix back to his home in the states.
The dog was a stray living off scraps in an area he was deployed in Iraq. The dog's ears had been cut off by Iraqis believing it would make the dog more alert and aggressive. The dog began following Dennis' unit as they ran patrols over several months.
Follow up:
At one point the dog was found stabbed with a screwdriver and nearly freezing. Dennis took the dog in, treated the wound and slept with it to keep it warm that night. Although the dog survived, he was given 4 days to get rid of the dog.
Dennis, with the help of a local veterinarian was able to make arrangements to have the dog shipped back stateside where the dog has found a new home with the Marine's family. "Nubs" is now waiting for the Major's return to the US.
