Cops Save Mom and Pups
This Kansas City story details some police officers who stumbled upon a stray female with 4 puppies. The officers called the local shelter for help then went to get some food for the nearly starved mother. It's good that things seem to be going well for these dogs now, but this is a common story across many cities in our Country. A reminder of the need to S/N your pets....

Ultimate Dogs
I found this clip about a man who has about 23 dogs. He mentions that all his dogs were rescues and that they all had "problems". Although some dogs do have problems or issues, that's not so much a function of coming from a shelter as is is lack of healthful interaction with humans. In other words, problems can be found in all dogs - rescues, purebreds, champions, etc.
The owner also mentions the need to work with each of his dogs for about 30 minutes each day to keep them from getting "crazy". This goes back to the fact that healthy relationships require time. Spending time with your dog while working on training and obedience is one of the best ways to provide mental challenges and exercise for your pet. Together, this creates pets that are much calmer and better adjusted.
Guide Dog Killed
This sad story involves a blind woman who was struck by a vehicle as she and her dog crossed a busy street. The dog was killed in the accident. I'm posting this story because it points out just how long and expensive it is to train dogs for service work. Additionally, handicapped persons who are fortunate to receive a dog for assistance almost always see a tremendous improvement in their quality of life.
I encourage everyone to do all they can to support organizations who train service dogs. They make a tremendous impact in the lives of many people.
Dogs Shot In Columbus Area
There have been 2 dogs shot by arrows in the Columbus, Ohio area over the past week. One occurred in NW Columbus and the other on the SE side. Rumors are already circulating that this occurred in other parts of town, but to my knowledge these are the only 2 incidents. It is not clear whether they are related, but it would be wise for pet owners to keep on eye on their pets while outdoors. More details can be found here.
The Capital Area Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
